I’m made up to have been awarded Arts Council Develop Your Creative Practice Funding for the Shibboleth Sari project, which will examine the sari as a symbol of Indian authenticity. I will be in partnership with Creative Design Manufacture Uk Ltd and taught there by Taslima Ahmad who is an inspirational mentor. The title refers to a shibboleth as a device that alerts insiders to a perceived external threat.
It’s exciting to be making mood boards :cutting and sticking and playing with colours and shapes, and learning about shibori – the ancient Japanese resist dye methods :tying and twisting fabric and then dunking and stirring it in buckets. Making a right mess.
